The Jewel at the Heart of Rainham

For the community, by the community

The iconic Oast building in central Rainham has overlooked Rainham station for more than a century after being built in the early 1870's by local businessmen, the Wakeley Brothers. Put up for sale in the 1970's, a partnership of local professionals saw an opportunity to turn the building into something great for our community. It is now a thriving community centre run by a dedicated team of volunteers and used by many local community groups and clubs including sports, health and wellbeing, spirituality, and gaming.

The Community Centre is run solely by the Rainham & Wigmore Community Association. We rely on the community centre income, kind donations and volunteers for it’s day-to-day operation. The centre is not funded by Medway Council or any commercial business.
